What contact information should you put on a resume?

Make it easy to reach the right person

Choose an email address you check and a phone number you are comfortable sharing with employers. Check for transposed digits, outdated accounts, and links copied with extra punctuation. Open each link in a signed-out browser to see what a recruiter can actually access.

A portfolio link is useful when it points to work that supports the application. A homepage with unfinished placeholders or access restrictions may add less value than a direct, working project page. Keep link labels short enough that the contact line remains readable.

Choose the amount of location detail

For a general resume header, Tailor defaults to city and region. A full mailing address is an optional choice, not something we automatically publish because it appeared in an older resume. You can also leave location off the header.

This preference does not answer relocation, work authorization, or residency questions on an application. Answer those separately and accurately when the employer asks. If you plan to move, describe the plan honestly instead of listing a location that implies you already live there.

Review the header once, then check the exported file

When you paste an existing resume, Tailor attempts to prefill contact details from its header. Review the result, especially if the source had multiple columns or unusual formatting. You control the email, phone, LinkedIn, and website toggles, as well as city-only, full-address, or no-location settings.

On the results page, the contact controls update the shared header across layouts without another AI generation. Before downloading, check the preview and remove any personal details you also typed manually into other sections.
